Dear Sir,

      My Brother in his Letter to
me speaks in such high terms of
the kindneƒs which he experiences
from you, that I cannot help
troubling you with a Letter to
say how exceedingly I feel obliged
by your conduct to him. He will
I am sure use every exertion still
to deserve your friendship, and there-
-fore I am sure he will still posƒseƒs
it. I remember when I had the
pleasure of seeing you at Spithead,

you lamented that in your profeƒsion
distinction was scarce ever to be
obtaind [sic] but by the destruction of
our fellow creatures: you will therefore
have rejoiced that long haraƒsed Europe
is at length at peace. And I rejoice
that you are placed in a situation so
congenial to your dispositon, in
which you will acquire honour and
celebrity by adding to the stock of
Human knowledge; and gratifying your own
feelings by distributing means of
future comfort among distant Nations.
      That the investigation in which
you are engaged, may answer the

expectation of your Country, and
every wish which you may have
formd [sic] concerning it, that you may
return safe and prosperous, accom-
-panied by every individual who
went out under your conduct, is
a sincere prayer of
