      In further answer to your
letter, of the 13 instant, containing
your observations with regard
to the variation of the compaƒs,
under certain circumstances
of situation, in the northern
and southern hemispheres,
I am commanded by my Lords
Commiƒsioners of the Admiralty
to transmit to you, herewith,
a copy of a letter, of yesterday's
date, from Admiral Sir
Roger Curtis, and of one
therein referred to, of the preceding
day's date, from Profeƒsor Inman
of the Royal Naval College at
Portsmouth, proposing a mode,
and mentioning the instruments
