Sir,
      My Lords Commiƒsioners of the
Admiralty having had under their conside-
ration your letter of the 15th instant,
requesting that, for the reasons
therein stated, you may receive "compensation
pay", as Commander of the "Investigator",
for the time during which you were
detained under particular circumstances
in the Isle of France; I am commanded
by their Lordships to acquaint you that,
on account of the very peculiar nature of
your case, and with reference to your having
been employed upon works connected with
your late voyage, they have been pleased
to give an order to the Navy Board for paying
to you the sum of five hundred pounds in lieu
of the compensation abovementioned.
