Extract of a letter, from Rear Admiral,
Sir Edward Pellew, Bart, Commander in Chief
of H M Ships & Veƒsels in the East Indies, to the
Captain General of the French Settlements to the East
of the Cape of Good Hope, dated 19th June 1807. –
          ________________

"I take this opportunity of renewing to
your Excellency my urgent request that the
long detention of Captn Flinders late Commander
of H M Sloop Investigator may be terminated
by your permitting him to return to Europe
under such conditions as you may judge
proper to impose, unleƒs previous to the
receipt of this letter, directions have been
already given for his absolute release –
His Case has long appeared to me
one of peculiar hardship, and I trust under
that under my present suggestion, your
Excellency will not permit those objections
to oppose his liberation which have hitherto
operated against him. – "
