Letter from George Nicol to Ann Flinders (1 of 2) (FLI06)

              Pall Mall
              Septr 6th 1815

My Dear Madam

      Though my Letter is certainly
not worth the Poƒtage, yet I canot [sic] help
writing you, as I promised to give you
some account, what my Friend at the
Admiralty knew, concerning our Busineƒs;
which indeed amounts to nothing more
than what he told us before — Viz: That
he saw your Memorial preparing, at the desire of Lord Melvile [sic], to be presented
to the Board — But what happened there, nobody
but the Board themselves know — In short
our Sole Reliance is upon Sir Joseph
who, if ever has the [illegible] part of the
Intereƒt at that Board, that I have known
Him to have — the Busineƒs will be done —
So let us continue to hope —

A very odd circumstance happened [sic] to
me — my mind being full of this busineƒs —
two

two nights ago —— I dreamt I was sent
for to the Admiralty, where the names of
Aƒtronomers, Draughtsmen, Naturaliƒts &c
were given me, who they said were to have
a share of the Profits of Capt Flinders' Voyage.
This I moƒt strenuously opposed, and said,
that I was employed by Capt Flinders
to publish his Voyage, and would be
accountable to Nobody but his Family
for the Profits ——- This is so near my
waking Sentiments, that I very much
approve of my Dream. ——
Wm Nicol is out of Town, but Margaret
desires to join me, in kind regards to
your Mother, Siƒter, & my little Friend. —
Believe me ever My Dear Madam
      Yours moƒt sincerely
          George Nicol
